Juniors

Geographe Outriggers started their inaugural junior development program in September 2015 with a group of 14 year-old boys and girls.  The club has continued to grow and now boasts junior members in the age categories 12U, 16U, and 19U. The club aims to develop their junior paddlers in all outrigger disciplines from V12, OC6, OC2, OC1, and V1 for both marathon races and sprint races.

Outrigger canoeing is exciting, social and competitive.  We teach the history of outrigger canoeing as it relates to Polynesian culture and we enter WA club regattas and organised fun paddling trips.  Canoe handling, correct paddling technique, and race strategy are taught at training.  There is also an emphasis on safety, fitness, teamwork, and concentration.

Outrigger canoeing is a lifelong sport and parents are welcome to get involved with the juniors and paddle with our senior crews.  For new paddlers the first three sessions are free!  Please click here for more information regarding membership or feel free to contact the club.

For more information about junior outrigger canoeing in Australia see the AOCRA Juniors page  and watch the promotional video.
